Mozambique: 13 external donations agreed in first nine months - worth $735.8 million
File potto: Domingo
Mozambique may this Monday (27-01) learn the result of the penultimate stage of the country’s assessment regarding its removal from the money laundering ‘Grey List’.
The information was released by the national coordinator of the Executive Committee for the Coordination of Policies to Prevent and Combat Money Laundering and Terrorism, Luís Cezerilo, in the newspaper Domingo.
The decision will be made after Mozambique’s participation in a face-to-face assessment held in Windhoek, Namibia, from 6 to 11 January, by the International Country Risk Guide (ICRG), which is part of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF).
The ICRG monitors 141 countries and provides information and forecasts on financial, political and economic risks by examining specific elements of each country, such as exchange rate risk, political leadership, the military and religion in politics and corruption.
In November last year, the Mozambican government announced that the final decision regarding Mozambique’s removal from the FATF Grey List would be taken in the first quarter of 2025, as per a report from a meeting, recently released in Paris.
During the meeting, according to the government, it was proven that the Mozambique had made progress in several indicators, with some being in red and others increasingly turning green.
Mozambique has been on the FATF Grey List since October, 2022.
