The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) has awarded a consortium of two companies US$3 million to carry out a feasibility study for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) urban mobility project in the Greater Maputo metropolitan area.
The investment is part of the US$250 million donated by the World Bank to improve mobility in the Greater Maputo metropolitan area.
The MTC, which is implementing the project through the Metropolitan Agency of Maputo (AMM), says that the complexity of the project warrants a detailed study by engineers and experts in various other fields in order to ascertain the true cost of the project.
AIM reports that the BRT feasibility study project was awarded to Netherlands engineering consultancy Royal HaskoningDHV and Integrated Transport Planning, both based in South Africa.
