The National Institute of Mines is distancing itself from information published this week suggesting the existence of huge gold reserves in Nairoto administrative post, Montepuez district, Cabo Delgado province.
A statement received by Radio Moçambique says that gold prospecting is ongoing in the area, but that the studies conducted so far are still inconclusive as regards the total size of any gold reserves.
In the same statement, the National Institute of Mines reminds the public that the announcement of data on any discovery of mineral resources in Mozambique is the prerogative of the government.
