Governor hosts ‘Rovuma to Maputo’ skaters as their 4,143 km journey nears end – Photos

The team skating from Rovuma to Maputo were received by Governor of Maputo Province Júlio José Parruque at his official residence in Matola yesterday, June 21, 2022.

Governor Parruque congratulated them on their 4,143 km journey dedicated to national unity.

The team will reach finish line in Ponta do Ouro, Matutuíne district, on Independence Day, June 25th, thus completing the journey begun on April 30, 2022, at Unity Bridge, in Negomano, Cabo Delgado.

Donaldo Salvador, the face of the skating marathon, said he was even more excited to be in Maputo now than on his previous successful ‘half marathon’ from Quelimane to Maputo in 2021.

The Governor of Maputo Province noted that inline skating was a modality achieving some consolidation in a country where roller hockey is a major sport, promising that Maputo province, through the Provincial Association of Skating, was eager to help popularise it.

Governor Parruque further congratulated the companies and institutions sponsoring this ‘Rovuma to Maputo’ initiative for the double significance of the tour, promoting both inline skating and a patriotic spirit of inclusion.
