Speaking at the end of a working visit to the province of Nampula last Friday, President Nyusi said that his government would develop industrial zones that could evolve into industrial parks in Nampula, Manica, Zambézia, Sofala and Maputo provinces.
The second day of work in the province of Nampula was aimed at industrialisation and agricultural marketing in the country. Filipe Nyusi started by opening a factory with the capacity to process 14 tons of cashew nuts per day. The plant, located in the Meconta district, Namialo administrative post, should employ up to 400 workers when in full operation.
He went on to the agro-industrial fair, where various products were exhibited, some processed for the national and international market.
Many of the companies exhibiting at the fair are based in the province of Nampula. In fact, after Maputo, Nampula has the second largest number of units in the manufacturing industry, with the Nacala Special Economic Zone standing out in this respect.
Agribusiness and industrialisation in the country was, in fact, the subject of the II National Forum on Agricultural Commercialization, at which the head of state announced the new initiatives.
The President spoke of incentives to stimulate production and gave the example of chicken, which had increased in production recently.
At the II National Forum on Agricultural Marketing, the first five cheques were delivered to projects benefiting from government financing through the National Investment Bank (BNI), which supports companies in financial difficulties because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
