The government is to grant military personnel involved in combating terrorism in Cabo Delgado and the central region of the country a ‘commitment allowance’, and a ‘risk subsidy’ to health professionals engaged in fighting Covid-19.
The subsidy was announced by President Filipe Nyusi on Tuesday at the June 16, Day of the Mueda Massacre and Day of the Metical celebrations.
“Those young people who criss-cross the forests in this province, in Sofala and Manica alike, the government will take into consideration their sacrifice, looking at the time that they spend away from their families, and with many difficulties. We are going to reconsider the commitment allowance that they very well deserve. We are aware that it will not be everything, because the sacrifice of these young people is not paid for with money or with any resources, but the Mozambican government and people acknowledge these young people,” the president said.
The head of state also announced a risk subsidy for health sector professionals involved in actions to counter Covid-19.
“The government will soon decide on a risk subsidy, because it is clear that, from this province, nurses, doctors, and now in Nampula province, doctors, nurses, rescuers are very committed to this activity but at the same time have been contracting [the disease], have been affected by this pandemic. For this reason, the government will exceptionally provide special assistance to this group of Mozambicans”, President Nyusi said.
