The Mozambican government is engaged in the mobilisation of about US$122 million for the completion of the rehabilitation and asphalting works on the Muxungue / Machaze road, in the province of Manica.
This was announced by the President of the Republic, Filipe Nyusi, during a rally in Sambassoca, administrative post of Save, Machaze district, south of Manica province.
According to Nyusi, the executive is also mobilising about US$1,900,000 for the extension of the electric power network in that district [Save].
The Head of State informed those present that the delay in building all the promised infrastructure, including the bridge over the Save River to allow the connection between the districts of Machaze and Massangena in the province of Gaza is due to the shortage of financial resources.
“In 2015/16, they was a drought and as a consequence, we did not produce enough and most of the resources went to the drought victims, not only in the south, but also in the centre and north of the country. The government is looking for resources to carry out all the promised works,” he said.
During the meeting, Nyusi recalled that in 2014, the village of Machaze had no electricity and the main concern for now, is to extend the network to more neighbourhoods, an extension of about 64 kilometres.
The president noted that the population of Machaze had requested the construction of a hospital, because of lack of money, the work had been paralysed but has now been resumed. He also said, because of the factors he mentioned, it will not be possible to build many schools.
“You had asked for a bank. The government does not have banks, but it is making efforts in the banking system and, within 30 days, the first stone will be laid for the construction of this economic infrastructure in Machaze,” announced Nyusi, adding that it is necessary to ensure peace in order for all the promises to be fulfilled.
The people who spoke at the meeting, once again asked the Head of State to build a bridge over the Save River to establish the connection between Machaze and Gaza province, which would serve as an alternative route to the National Road Number One (EN1)and an interconnection to the whole country.
Regarding the construction of the alternative road, Nyusi explained that, it is in the government’s programme, that work is currently under way between the contractors and the Ministry of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, with a view to assessing the conditions for the realisation of this work.
The population also requested the construction of a road linking the administrative post of Save to the Machissanga area, the rehabilitation of two schools which are in a state of degradation, another school that has no roof as a result of a windstorm, some classrooms, a technical school , a tractor and an irrigation system to increase production.
Machaze wanted to know from the President of the Republic, the steps that have been taken to reach peace ? The president responded by explaining that, he has made a commitment to continue the dialogues with the new leadership of Renamo.
“I’ve had two meetings with General Ossufo Momade. The contacts continue. Naturally, the speed is not the same, which is normal when they is a change in leadership. I believe that in the coming days it will gain momentum until we get there. For now, what I can tell you is that, the dialogues have started off in good speed, “Nyusi said.
