Relations between Mozambique and Rwanda rose to new levels when Kigali offered troops to support the country in the fight terrorism in Cabo Delgado.
The list of matters approved by the Mozambican executive in its seventh ordinary session this Tuesday includes the draft resolution ratifying the agreement on legal cooperation between Mozambique and Rwanda in criminal matters, signed on June 3, 2022.
“The agreement establishes mechanisms to ensure the widest possible assistance as possible from both sides – in accordance with each country’s provisions and internal legislation – in the investigation or judicial procedures in relation to infringements whose applicable measure, at the time of the request for assistance, is within the competence of the requesting party’s judicial authorities,” Council of Ministers spokesman Filimão Suazi reported.
The cabinet also approved the proposal ratifying the extradition agreement between the two countries, which establishes the cases and conditions in which extradition requests can be made.
The proposals will be submitted to the Assembly of the Republic for ratification.
Suazi told the press that the government had also considered and given the green light to the decree authorising the channelling of subsidies to the victims of the Hulene rubbish dump collapse in Maputo.
These funds will be channelled through the Municipal Council of Maputo.
Filimão Suazi reported that the executive had also analysed the impact of the recent rains in the country, and had positively evaluated the measures taken to minimise the suffering of those affected.
