Construction work on a jetty in the Quissanga district of Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province, due to start next April after the provincial government secured funding of US$1.2 million, said the provincial director of Transport and Communications.
The jetty in question, with a length of 300 metres, will allow berthing of vessels that connect the district and the neighbouring Ibo district and is part of the implementation of the Moz-Bio project, which was launched in 2015 by the Land, Environment and Rural Development Minister, Celso Correia, to protect biodiversity in conservation areas in Mozambique.
The Moz-Bio project with an estimated cost of US$46.3 million and which has World Bank funding, will run between 2015 and 2019 and is expected to directly benefit 20,000 families.
The districts of Quissanga and Ibo are located in the conservation area of Parque das Quirimbas, hence having been contemplated for that project, according to the provincial director of Transport and Communications of Cabo Delgado, Felicidade Costa.
The port system in the province of Cabo Delgado consists of a secondary port, Pemba and tertiary ports in Mocimboa da Praia and Palma. At the port of Palma there are plans to invest 70 million meticais by Mozambican port and railway company CFM and the national oil and gas company ENH in the implementation of the project to develop gas and commercial ports.
