The Mozambican government is launching a housing programme called ‘Renacer’ (‘Born Again’) in Manhiça district, Maputo province, today, as part of the ‘Habita Mozambique’ presidential initiative.
According to Council of Ministers spokesman Filimão Swazi, project ‘Renascer’ will roll out in April in Cabo Delgado, Maputo and Nampula provinces, Swazi having detailed some of the criteria for joining the project.
The eighth Council of Ministers session also considered post-cyclone reconstruction efforts, hearing from Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, João Machatine, that the government had so far received US$706 million of the US$3.2 billion announced as needed from donors.
Minister Machatine told the cabinet that the government would presently share with sovereign bodies, partners and society in general a report detailing activities carried out in places affected by the cyclones.
Rádio Mozambique reports Machatine as adding that US$190.5 million had been secured for reconstruction this year already.
