The Mozambican Journalist’s Day is celebrated today, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the National Union of Journalists. As usual, the president has issued a press release, this time affirming that the importance and social relevance of journalism is not revealed only by the audience reached by the media organ he or she works for.
For Filipe Nyusi, “the journalist’s role is reflected in the informative, pedagogical and patriotic content of the message he transmits to the people, encouraging all to contribute to the nation’s economic growth”.
Later in his message, the president states that “the government has been working hand in hand with social communication professionals to create a healthy environment of freedom of expression and access to information, to dignify this class, building a society tolerant to the plurality of ideas”.
“May this day of reflection be an incentive to professional ethics and deontology as perennial values in the work of social communication professionals, and beyond; and that a conscience based on diversity of thought and respect should reign, so that all Mozambicans can contribute to the development of the country that belongs to all of us,” the communiqué continues.
Filipe Nyusi concludes his message by congratulating all communication professionals, “in the hope that national journalism will be a beacon for the construction of the country we all yearn for”.
