Government authorities in Nampula deny that a suspected case of monkeypox has been identified in the province.
Since Wednesday morning, information has been circulating on social media reporting that a man showing symptoms reminiscent of monkeypox had entered the Military Hospital in Nampula.
The Secretary of State for Nampula province, Mety Gondola, responded publicly to this alleged information, clarifying that, when government authorities became aware of the case, they mandated a health team to investigate the situation. According to Gondola, the medical examinations of the individual in question, thought to be over 35 years of age, indicated that it was a case of chickenpox.
“We asked our colleagues in the healthcare sector to look into this information, and the preliminary results indicate that it is not smallpox. Our team is still working with the healthcare staff, and has been involved in managing this process from the beginning. Our National Institute of Health team is leading the way,” Gondola explained.
