Over 3,500 industry leaders from over 70 countries and regions have come to Macau for the grand opening of the 16th International Infrastructure Investment and Construction Forum, with the attendees including nearly 70 ministerial-level officials.
According to an official statement, the country’s contracting revenue abroad exceeded US$160 billion, with new contracts worth a record US$267.3 billion.
Yan Dong, vice-minister of the Ministry of Commerce, put forth four recommendations during the event, emphasising four-pronged approach to co-development.
He suggested prioritising “mutual benefit” and a “win-win approach” to overall growth.
Moreover, he mentioned that the country would continue to uphold openness and inclusivity in all collaborations.
He also touched upon the need to drive green and digital transformation with innovation as the foundation.
Yan also drew attention to industry and supply chains as the major link in ensuring coordinated and stable development.
The three-day event covers upwards of 250 themed sessions and auxiliary activities, including forums, guided tours, innovation showcases, and business meetings.
This year’s edition features a 8,000-squre-metre exhibition, displaying 85 Fortune Global 500 companies and top 250 international contractors.
Secretary for Economy and Finance Tai Kin Ip said in a speech that the forum was propelling Macau’s MICE industry towards a greater level of internationalisation, specialisation and market-oriented development, enabling the special administrative region to play a significant role in the Belt and Road Initiative.
“Looking ahead, Macau will continue to leverage the advantages of the ‘One Country, Two Systems’ framework to establish a high-level platform for openness, actively develop key markets and explore emerging ones, better integrate into and serve national development strategies, promote regional connectivity, and participate in and support China’s modernisation through concrete actions,” Tai said.
