The education sector and partners in Gondola district, Manica, have overseen the return of 19 prematurely married young women to school. They will benefit from accompaniment and help with school supplies.
The 19 girls have different stories. Some were pressured into marriage at a young age and fled their forced unions, while others became mothers prematurely and married to legitimise their children.
A joint action between the education sector and Jossoal, an organisation which supports girls’ right to education, saw the girls’ dream of returning to school fulfilled.
The project for the reintegrating mothers and adolescents into education is also supported by Save The Children. Selection of beneficiaries is based on the level of vulnerability
The education sector extends a range of assistance to families to encourage them to keep girls in school.
