Germany will grant Mozambique a total of €107 million for various projects and programmes over the next two years, an official statement reveals.
“These financial resources will be applied in the implementation of projects and cooperation programmes for the development of Mozambique in priority areas, namely, basic, vocational and technical-professional education, decentralisation and public finances, sustainable economic development, energy and biodiversity,” a joint communique issued by the German embassy in Maputo and the Mozambican Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation reads.
The projects and programmes set to be developed will focus on Sofala (centre) and Inhambane (south) provinces within the framework of priorities defined by the Government of Mozambique’s Five-Year Programme for 2020-2024, the joint document adds.
The amount was announced during a virtual meeting between Mozambican and German diplomats on Wednesday.
“The parties reaffirmed their mutual desire to continue working towards strengthening their bilateral relations on the basis of a long-standing partnership, of mutual trust and mutual benefits,” the document concludes.
According to official figures, Germany has so far this year made €17.5 million available to support Mozambique in its response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
