The German Ambassador to Mozambique, Lothar Freischlader, paid a working visit to Inhambane from the 25th and 27th of the current month, his first to the province since taking up the post.
The visit presented the opportunity to hold a joint meeting with the Secretary of State, Ludmila Maguni, and the Governor of Inhambane Province, Daniel Chapo.
As Inhambane province is one of the focal regions of the German Development Cooperation department in Mozambique, the Ambassador was accompanied by the Head of Cooperation at the German Embassy, Thierry Kühn.
Over recent years, most of the German development cooperation projects, estimated at €70 million, were implemented by GIZ and the German Development Bank (KfW) in the areas of decentralization, public finance, economic social development and energy.
The German Development Bank is currently financing municipal infrastructure in the amount of €25 million in Inhambane, Maxixe, Massinga, Vilankulo and Quissico through the PODIA and Coastal Cities projects.
The Ambassador visited various undertakings and projects financed and implemented by the German cooperation agency, among them, the Eduardo Mondlane Industrial and Commercial Institute, which has received funding of €4.5 million. Ambassador Freischlader expressed his “satisfaction with the level of implementation of the German cooperation for development projects, as well as the level of communication and articulation between German partners and local entities”.
At the invitation of the president of Vilankulo Municipal Council, Williamo Simão Tunzine., the Ambassador travelled to Vilankulo, which is the only municipality that has a ‘twinning’ municipal partnership and friendship relationship with Germany, specifically, the city of Aalen.
Delivering a positive assessment of his visit to Inhambane, the Ambassador reaffirmed “the German government’s commitment to continue implementing projects in this province, in order to contribute to its development and that of all its inhabitants”.
