The United States Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a magnitude 4.4 earthquake off the coast of Mozambique on Tuesday night, with no reports of damage so far.
According to the world monitoring service, the earthquake’s epicentre was 10 kilometres below the surface of the Indian Ocean.
The quake took place at 21:33 UCT (23:33 in Mozambique) under the Mozambique Channel, between the coast of Nampula province in northern Mozambique and the island of Madagascar.
The nearest city was Angoche, a coastal district headquarters about 148 kilometres from the epicentre.
