Gasoline and diesel prices will fall by 2 and 3 meticais respectively as from tomorrow, Thursday.
This was perhaps one of the most anticipated price changes since the Ministry of Mineral Resources and Energy stopped reviewing them, months ago.

Meanwhile, notwithstanding the sharp drop of fuel prices in the international market, the review made public this Wednesday does not match the prices currently practised outside the country.
The explanation presented for what is making fuels in Mozambique more expensive than in several other countries was that the fuels purchased by the authorities in March and April have not yet been unloaded and, therefore, we will be using those from January and February.
The prices announced are as follows:
Gasoline, now sold at 66.49 meticais per litre, will be sold at 64.22 meticais.
Diesel costs 63.52 meticais per litre and will drop to 60.16 meticais.
Cooking gas remains at 61.23 meticais per kilogram and lighting oil remains at 48.44.
Compressed Natural Gas also continues to cost 30.35 meticais.
As for the rice of cooking gas, the ministry of mineral resources says that it had to make a match because the demand grew due to the number of people staying at home with COVID-19, so the price could have even gone up.
Despite the delay in unloading the fuel purchased abroad in March and April of this year, there is no shortage foreseen in the coming months, because of the excess of fuel in the country.
The Ministry of Mineral Resources further explained that it spent months without reviewing fuel prices, because the country still had last year’s stock, acquired in the international market at a relatively high price.
Meanwhile, the Ministry expects to, henceforth, resume presenting monthly price reviews, as determined by ministerial decree.
