Actions by Galp volunteers, through the ‘Every Step Counts’ initiative, which organised the raising of funds to purchase food products, have sourced products equivalent to 4,000 meals, with the aim of alleviating the difficulties of the most vulnerable families.
Galp Mozambique promoted the solidarity event to deliver food to vulnerable groups in partnership with the Makobo Platform. It was a moment of sharing with the community, with the company team participating in preparing a solidarity meal.
The various basic food products were collected by Galp volunteers as part of the fourth edition of ‘Every Step Counts’, an initiative that converts into meals every kilometre travelled by Galp employees, their partners and friends, as recorded by an app.
The action materialises the commitment of Galp employees to the community and reinforces support for access to quality, nutritious food that is essential for the healthy development of disadvantaged groups.
“We organized ‘Every Step Counts’ with great enthusiasm, a solidarity movement that puts the energy of Galp people at the service of the community. Anyone can participate and, literally, take a step towards bringing us all a little closer to the more supportive society that we support,” said Marlena Chambule, Director of People, Communication and Social Impact at Galp Mozambique.
In turn, the founder of Makobo Platform, Ruy Santos shared “we thank Galp for the honour and privilege of receiving this support in a creative way, where it has invited its employees to get involved in a cause that, in addition to encouraging sports practice, it also contributes to a social cause. The goods received will be used to support disadvantaged families, especially children in suburban neighbourhoods where we have operated”.
This initiative is also replicated in other geographies where Galp operates.
In Mozambique, it has already taken close to 12 tons of food and other goods to hundreds of people affected by hunger and food insecurity.
In 2021, the ‘Every Step Counts’ project in partnership with the Associação Philadelphia’s food program, supplied more than two tons of basic food and other products for the distribution of a thousand daily meals to orphaned children at nine locations in Sofala province.
In 2022, in another joint action between Galp and Makobo Platform, almost two tons of various food products were donated for meals for internally displaced people in Cabo-Delgado through the ‘Missão Coração Solidário’ program.
In 2023, around two tons of basic food products were collected by Galp volunteers and donated to the SOS Children’s Village in Maputo.
