The former Mabor Moçambique tyre factory, which was shut down more than a decade ago, is expected to change tack soon and could start producing school textbooks, notebooks and other stationary materials for the domestic market.
Executive director of the Institute for the Management of State Holdings (IGEPE), Raimundo Matule made the announcement yesterday in Maputo on the sidelines of a planning meeting organised by the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Matule said the measure was intended to make the asset profitable and arises from the fact that the production of tires, which requires considerable investment, is no longer feasible.
The factory was therefore sold to a private company that will produce stationary and allied products.
“Our decision is to keep Mabor as it is and within a short time we will have Mabor functioning as a producer of school books and other graphic materials,” he said.
