The five young people attempting to skate from Cabo Delgado to Maputo have already covered 500 kilometres.
Welcoming the team of in-line skaters to Pemba, Governor of Cabo Delgado Valige Tauabo expressed satisfaction at them arriving safe and sound after touring the north and central areas of the province without incident.
After resting in Pemba, the group was this Thursday scheduled to leave for Nampula province.
Governor Tauabo said goodbye to the skating athletes, who had started their Marathon for National Unity at the Unity Bridge, Negomano administrative post, in Mueda district, on May 1st.
The team is scheduled to arrive in Maputo, the country’s capital, on Independence Day, June 25th.
Risco Alibai, the initiative’s originator, explained that the marathon was conceived to promote skating, and sports in general, in all provinces of the country. The organisers of the marathon hope inline skating will become a regular sporting activity right across the country.
After starting their journey in Negomano, at the Unity bridge, the team passed through the districts of Palma, Mocimboa da Praia, Macomia and Awasse, where they were warmly received and well treated.
