Mozambique: Broken radiotherapy machine puts teenager's dreams on hold
More than 900 families will receive food assistance in Panda district (Inhambane Province), one of the areas affected by the drought brought on by the El Niño phenomenon. An initiative by the French government, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development, saw the distribution of €300,000 in drought response and food security in Panda.
The funds will also be utilised for the distribution of agricultural contributions to 500 families in Panda. Support will be channelled to vulnerable communities via Oxfam, an international nongovernmental organisation.
The financing agreement was signed on Monday 19 September between the French ambassador to Mozambique, Bruno Clerc, and the representative of Oxfam in Mozambique, Carmen Munhequete.
This marks the second response by the French government to the drought in Mozambique. Earlier this year France financed the creation of water sources that stand to benefit more than 5,000 people in the administrative post of Buma, Massinga district (Inhambane Province).
