Chanting and cheering gave a party atmosphere when the Central Committee of Frelimo met for its fifth session this morning at the party’s Central School in Matola.
“Who commands?” was the most frequently sung question by those attending. “Frelimo and Nyusi,” sang in reply the women of the OMM (Frelimo Women’s League, named Organização da Mulher Moçambicana).
The political situation and the preservation of peace will form the backdrop to the session, as well as preparations for the first party congress directed by Filipe Nyusi in his capacity as president of Frelimo.
The intention of the ‘comrades’ party meeting is to analyze various issues of national interest. The peace and economic situation of the country are likely to be discussed during the four days of sessions.
The central Committee will look at the aspects of the economic situation in the day-to-day lives of Mozambicans, and the session will also discuss Frelimo’s budget and its plan for 2016 and review the reports of the political and central committees.
Frelimo spokesman Antonio Niquice says the Central Committee will also consider proposals to convene the 11th Frelimo Congress in 2017, at a date and location to be announced.
