The Organisation of Mozambican Women (OMM) on Thursday appealed to the leader of the country’s largest opposition party Renamo, Afonso Dhlakama, to abandon his bush hideout and accept the invitation of President Filipe Nyusi to join those interested in the establishment of a lasting peace.
The appeal came during the Congress of the OMM which is being held in the southern city of Matola. The OMM is affiliated to the ruling Frelimo Party.
According to spokesperson Xarzada Ora, the OMM and all Mozambican women are concerned about the need to re-establish peace and stability to allow for social and economic development. She added that there is nothing that Mozambicans cannot solve through the exchange of ideas, hence the call for Dhlakama to respect the life of his brothers.
On Friday, the last day of the Congress, the OMM is to elect its National Council which is composed of 120 members.
