The Secretary-General of the Mozambican Liberation Front (Frelimo) said yesterday that the house of the first Mozambican president, Samora Machel, in the town of Bagamoyo, Tanzania, should be restored “with urgency”.
A team from the party which has governed Mozambique since independence plans to go to Bagamoyo soon to survey not only this, but all of Frelimo’s historical heritage assets in Tanzania, Roque Silva said.
The announcement comes after he visited several sites linked to the party’s history.
In addition to visiting the house where Samora Machel lived, Silva visited other places Frelimo leaders had lived during the liberation struggle.
He also visited the Julius Nyerere Leadership Institute, a joint Southern African liberation parties’ project supported by the Communist Party of China.
