The secretary general of Frelimo, Roque Silva, was received on Monday in Luanda by the President of the Republic of Angola and of the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), João Lourenço, with whom he reviewed cooperation between the two political parties.
The encounter took place during the meeting of the general secretaries of the liberating parties and movements of the African Portuguese Speaking Countries (PALOP), whose objective is to share lessons of the struggle for independence and discuss current challenges.
The general secretaries of five former liberation movements participated in the meeting, namely the Mozambican Liberation Front (Frelimo), the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA), the Liberation Movement of Sao Tome and Principe (MLSTP) and the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde(PAIGC).
The Secretary General of Frelimo highlighted the contribution of the former liberation movements of Portuguese Speaking African Countries (PALOP) in the development of their respective nations and beyond.
Roque Silva stressed that, despite the gains secured by the former liberation movements, challenges persist for the parties in particular and for the well-being and future of their nations in general.

“It is important that, as we did in the articulation in the coordination, in the combination of efforts for the conquest of our independence, we now join forces for what the objectives are, hence this meeting of the former liberation movements. We are going to exchange points of view on the internal organisation of our parties on the great challenges that arise, looking at what the internal and international situation is, but we are also going to exchange points of view on what are the effective challenges of the development processes of our nations,” he said.
The Secretary General of Frelimo, Roque Silva, was speaking in Luanda, the Angolan capital, this Monday within the scope of the Meeting of the General Secretaries of the Former Movements for the Liberation of Portuguese Speaking African Countries, which started on Saturday and ended this Tuesday.
