Frelimo says it will defend national unity to the bitter end. At a meeting held on Friday, September 2, in Maputo City, the ruling party said that it is necessary to revive the ideologies of Eduardo Mondlane, the architect of national unity, and bring stability to the country.
“National unity is a heritage of ours. It is an asset that must be preserved at any cost. That is why we have been repudiating any action that divides the country. We will pursue national unity to the bitter end,” first secretary of Frelimo in Maputo city Francisco Mabjaia declared.
At capital level, Frelimo intends to table a debate at its 11th congress on topics such as national unity, peace and democracy, decentralisation and ethics in governance.
Mabjaia says that only through unity can the country overcome adversity and achieve development.
“When Eduardo Mondlane joined together three movements to fight against colonialism in 1962, he did so based on the principle that only through unity would we be able to achieve the victory that Mozambique wished for,” Mabjaia added.
The Frelimo meeting in Maputo was held to prepare the 11th party congress, to be held in September 2017 in Matola, Maputo province. The ruling party will meet next October to decide on the themes to be debated.
