The III Conference elected 42 members of the Lisbon Circle Committee, of which 17 were reappointments (8 women and 9 men) and 25 were new members (13 women and 12 men), as well as eight Cell Secretaries and Secretaries of the Mozambican Women’s Organisation (OMM) and the Mozambican Youth Organisation (OJM), with 52 members.
Directed by Chakil Aboobacar, Secretary of the Frelimo Central Committee for the Economic Area, the conference also elected the delegate of the Lisbon Circle Committee of the 11th Frelimo Congress, the First Secretary and the Secretary for Mobilisation and Propaganda of the Lisbon Circle, the latter sworn in. The new First Secretary is Elias Muthemba, who defeated the former secretary, Alberto Paulino Alface, in the polls.
The First Secretary of the Circle Committee of Faro, in the south of Portugal, took office on the same occasion.
The seventy-eight delegates, eight invitees (three from the Coimbra Circle and the Central Zone of Portugal, three from the Faro Circle, two from the Porto Circle and the North Zone) plus 16 Frelimo Party sympathizers, brought the total to 102.
Also during the Conference, greeting motions were presented to Comrade Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, President of Frelimo and President of the Republic of Mozambique and a greeting to the Social Organs of Frelimo.
Contacted by AIM in Lisbon, members of the political party in power in Mozambique confirmed that the Third Conference of the Lisbon Circle “was held in the orderly and festive atmosphere characteristic of Frelimo Party and social organisation events”, adding that the event was guided by the slogan ‘Victory is prepared, victory is organised’.
In the last general elections of 2014, Frelimo and its candidate Filipe Nyusi won overwhelmingly in the Electoral Circle of Europe and the rest of the world (Portugal and Germany).
