Frelimo candidate for next October’s elections in Beira, Augusta Maita, says she will win the vote and rescue the image of the city, which she considers to have declined badly.
Augusta Maita was speaking at a fund-raising dinner for Frelimo’s electoral campaign, where about 6 million meticais were raised.
In his capacity as president of Frelimo, Filipe Nyusi introduced the party’s heads of list to the province of Sofala at the dinner attended by business leaders as well as party members and sympathisers, with Frelimo candidates presenting their governance proposals.
Four million meticais for election campaign in Cabo Delgado
In similar vein, members and supporters of Frelimo raised four million meticais at a gala dinner in Pemba, mostly from local businesspeople who pledged unconditional support for the party in the five municipalities of Cabo Delgado.
Frelimo provincial secretary in Cabo Delgado, José Kalime, said the money would help with logistics, but was thought insufficient on its own to guarantee victory in all the province ‘s municipalities.
“In all our districts, we have to make a similar gesture. We have to be self-sufficient and collect enough to support our campaign,” Kalime said.
During the fundraising gala, Frelimo auctioned a polo shirt and a shirt signed by party president Filipe Jacinto Nyusi for 370,000 meticais.
