The Frelimo Political Commission today validated the party’s 53 heads of list for the Oct. 10 municipal elections, expressing confidence in the candidates for scrutiny.
“The Political Commission has analysed and confirmed in this session the pre-nominations for the election of head of list and considers the choices made as those that objectively respond to the yearnings and aspirations of the party bases and the citizens in each of the 53 municipalities, according to a statement from the Mozambican Liberation Front (Frelimo), the ruling party in Mozambique.
The note does not mention the names of the ruing party heads of list, but representatives of the candicacy of Samora Machel Junior, son of the first Mozambican President, Samora Machel, complain about the candidate’s exclusion, accusing the Frelimo Committee of Maputo City of lack of transparency in the process.
“We wondered about the criteria used to keep out other candidates,” said Albino Forquilha, a representative of Samora Machel Junior’s list, in statements to the STV channel.
Albino Forquilha said that the list delivered an undersigned with two thousand names of Frelimo members in Maputo is going to contest the exclusion of Samora Machel Junior.
The STV reports that Frelimo in Maputo chose Eneas Comiche, Fernando Sumbane and Razaque Manhique for pre-candidates in the Frelimo interns.
The first secretary of the ruling party in Maputo, Francisco Mabjaia, did not confirm the choice of pre-candidates and the exclusion of Samora Machel Junior, sending a press announcement on the subject to a press conference.
