Notícias / President Filipe Nyusi arrives at the Matola meeting accompanied by Frelimo Secretary General Eliseu Machava and First Lady Isaura Nyusi
Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi, in his capacity as President of the ruling Frelimo Party, on Monday night urged every Frelimo member to take responsibility for seeking solutions to the problems that concern the people.
Speaking in the southern city of Matola, at the end of a three day Frelimo National Cadre Conference, Nyusi said “Each of us, at all levels, has the responsibility to seek solutions for the concerns that the people face in their daily lives. When a citizen poses a problem, he starts from the principle that we can help him, because he regards us a light leading to the solution of his concern”.
He stressed that when Mozambican society notes something wrong or abnormal, “it expects us to activate immediately our militancy, our political instinct and our mobilization capacity so that we solve the problem”
Nyusi added that, in the search for solutions to the nation’s problems, unity and cohesion among Frelimo members are essential, because “each one of us, on his or her own, regardless of how strong or intelligent we may be, is too small to deal with the challenges facing Mozambicans. This message should be carried to all of us”.
Cohesion and unity, he said, reduce the risk of dispersing rather than concentrating interventions in defence of the interests of Mozambicans.
Among other matters, the Cadre Conference debated the draft theses that will be put before the Frelimo 11th Congress, scheduled for September 2017. Nyusi described the conference as “an important moment for sharing our concerns” and “an opportunity for us to debate expectations and perspectives on the strategic priorities of Frelimo”.
Tuesday marks the 24th anniversary of the General Peace Agreement signed in Rome, on 4 October 1992, between the government and the Renamo rebels. Renamo, however, has opted to return to war and is currently waging a low level insurrection, mostly in the central provinces.
Nyusi said the challenge remains to restore tranquility to the Mozambican people. “Peace is our collective heritage and the supreme interest of everyone “, he said. “So we urge everyone to repudiate all actions that undermine the peace achieved with enormous sacrifice. We all have the responsibility to bring peace back”.
Meanwhile, according to the final communiqué read at the end of the gathering, to meet the costs incurred in holding the conference, the delegates and invited guests contributed assorted goods and sums of over 7.4 million meticais (about 97,400 US dollars at current exchange rates), plus rather more than 4,000 South African rands, and 438 dollars.
