Mozambique’s ruling Frelimo Party on Tuesday released a statement lauding the role of the Muslim community as a pillar of economic and social development, and as a positive force for the consolidation of unity and the promotion of peace.
Frelimo sent the message to Muslims as they celebrate Eid al-Fitr as the holy month of Ramadan comes to a close.
The party reiterated its condemnation of the attacks carried out by armed men from the opposition party Renamo against people and property involved in the country’s development.
The message stressed, “Frelimo considers that the best way to overcome differences is through frank and open dialogue, which should prevail in a spirit of reconciliation, fraternity, and unity between Mozambicans”.
Frelimo reaffirmed the esteem it holds for all faiths and urged the Muslim community to continue with its commitment to helping lift the country out of poverty.
