Mozambique: President begins 3-day working visit to Niassa - Watch
Political party Frelimo’s political committee met on Friday (March 4) and decided to convene a Central Committee meeting for April 21-24 at its headquarters in Matola, Maputo province to determine the date and venue of the 11th party congress some time in 2017.
Chaired by Filipe Nyusi, last Friday’s meeting analyzed the political, economic and social situation existing in the country and the steps undertaken for the resumption of the dialogue with Renamo.
The meeting extended its welcome to the Mozambican people, encouraging them to continue to support peace and national unity and condemn armed attacks by Renamo against civilian targets and units of the Mozambique Defence and Security Forces as disturbing the normal movement of people and goods and destroying public and private property.
The political committee encouraged the government to continue to protect the population and to devote itself to activities for the well-being and development of the country. Members thanked the police and the defence and security forces for their efforts to combat crime, protect the population and maintain order and public safety throughout the country.
The political committee encouraged the head of state to maintain his attitude of openness to dialogue [with Renamo] without preconditions, based on respect for the country’s legal system, with a view to securing lasting peace, and welcomes the official invitation to Afonso Dhlakama to help secure the resumption of high-level dialogue.
The political committee thanked the Commander-in-Chief of the defence and security forces for presiding over the police force’s 11th graduation ceremony on February 26 at the Academy of Police Sciences (ACILO) in Michafutente, Maputo, as strengthening the capacity of the services and raising its performance levels in order to ensure the free exercise of citizens’ rights.
As cited by Domingo in the same statement, Frelimo’s top body thanked President Nyusi for opening the judicial year in 1 March, under the motto: “For the Prevention and Combating of Organized and Transnational Crime”.
The political committee took time to appreciate the work done during the 2015 school exam cycle and directed the government to continue activities leading to the improvement of teaching quality and conditions.
The committee also encouraged the government to continue with measures aimed at preventing loss of life, the destruction of economic and social infrastructure and the loss of crops and livestock as a result of natural disasters, with focus on the drought and floods affecting provinces in the north, centre and south of the country, and called for internal solidarity.
The Frelimo political commission also welcomed Mozambican women on the occasion of Women’s Month of, and commended the role of Frelimo’s Female Detachment where, through patriotism and heroism, young women were able to dedicate themselves to the emancipation of women and the cause of the nation.
