The Frelimo Central Committee today starts a three-day meeting chaired by the party’s president, Filipe Nyusi, at the Filipe Nyusi Conference Centre in Zimpeto.
In this last session before the party’s Congress, the Central Committee will evaluate proposals to revise the statutes and program of the ruling party, and the work agenda and organisation of the congress itself will also be considered and debated.
The secretary of the Central Committee for Mobilisation and Propaganda and Frelimo spokesperson, António Niquice, yesterday convened a press conference to present the details of the agenda. He pointed out that the members of the ruling party’s highest body had, in the interval between congresses, the opportunity to mediate and guide debate involving Frelimo members and supporters at all levels surrounding the motions to be presented to the Congress.
“The Central Committee will have the opportunity to appreciate and contribute to the most important aspects of the life of the party and the level of preparation for the Frelimo 11th Congress. We will consider the report of the preparation office and discuss the proposed revision of the [Frelimo] statutes because they are current, but must be adapted to reality. Preparatory works for the 11th Congress began with discussion of motions and the revitalisation of the bases, where the contribution of the people was fundamental, because Frelimo was always inspired by the people,” Niquice said, adding that it was necessary to ensure that those contributions had an impact on the lives of the Mozambicans.
He added that, as this was the last session before the full meeting, it must verify that all the conditions for holding the congress were in place, since it provided a unique opportunity to discuss the life of the nation.
António Niquice reaffirmed Frelimo’s unconditional support for President Nyusi’s efforts to bring peace to the country, as well as his governance, which was helping to improve the well-being of all Mozambicans.
