Speaking to members after the announcement, the Frelimo first secretary in Chimoio, Jorge Fazenda Chingore, appealed for party unity to ensure victory in the forthcoming elections. He called on members to continue to struggle for the common cause, “to win with a safe margin to guarantee the largest number of seats in the municipal assembly”.
Choosing the mayoral candidate for Catandica was delayed by a couple of days due to the recent death of the Frelimo district secretary, Adriano Passanduca. In the internal elections which took place on Sunday, the party chose Domingos Cassuada to head its list for the municipal elections.
