A free technical workshop for lighting technicians, video technicians, filmmakers, videographers and all those interested in the basics of lighting and/or video is being given at the Franco-Mozambican Cultural Centre (CCFM) on the 15 and 16 December.
Olivier Vallet’s Compagnie les Rémouleurs has been working in street theatre for about thirty years, it is today recognized as one of the most creative in the area of shadow theatre, optical theatre and image projection. Its self-taught artistic director, Olivier Vallet, is fascinated by light and optics and has received numerous awards in the field of technical achievement, including the Louis Jouvet “Lumière” prize and the ARTS and Hors les Murs prizes. He also works as an instructor at the Higher National School of Arts and Techniques of Theatre (ENSATT) and the Puppet Theatre in Paris.
Workshop
Vallet’s workshop, entitled “Just Another Motion Picture”, invites participants to discover ways to create a moving image on stage without using conventional video media. After an introduction to the basic rules of optics, participants will investigate existing “image machines” and then look at some inexpensive alternatives to video. The workshop will enable light technicians or video artists to explain the versatility of video projection techniques to, for example, the director of a play or the singer in a band.
