Mozambique: Terrorists accused of using children as shields

Mozambican Minister of Transport and Communications, Carlos Mesquita, will switch on free Internet connectivity in the Tunduru Municipal Gardens in the country’s capital today, thanks to the Communications Regulatory Authority (INCM) in collaboration with the Municipality of Maputo.
Free public internet access will be one of garden’s attractions, especially for students, and is essentially a contribution to mass internet roll-out.
The Tunduru Gardens was designed in 1885 by renowned British landscape architect Thomas Honney, who also designed gardens for the Sultan of Turkey and the King of Greece. For lovers of botany, many of the trees are labelled with their species and origin, and there is a greenhouse to visit. the park also houses the tennis courts of the Mozambique Tennis Federation.
An INCM statement sent to AIM today states that the installation of the internet at the Tunduru Gardens is part of a programme celebrating the institution’s 25th anniversary under the motto “For secure communication”, with the emphasis on cyber security.
The INCM regulates and supervises compliance with communications market rules, as well as encouraging liberalization and development. The institution was created in September 1992 with the purpose of regulating and supervising the postal and telecommunications sectors, as well as managing the radio spectrum.
Today’s ceremony will be attended by senior Municipality of Maputo officials, representatives from the communications sector and trade and industry, communications students and other guests.
