The French head of state, Emmanuel Macron, in a message congratulating Daniel Chapo on his election and inauguration as president of Mozambique, has promised to strengthen cooperation with the country in the areas of the economy and maritime security.
“Our cooperation in the area of maritime security is strengthened with the Intergovernmental Defence Agreement signed in December, 2023. I hope that we can deepen our partnership in the regional and international arena,” reads the congratulatory message from the French president, released this Wednesday by the Presidency of the Mozambican Republic.
In the message, Macron also highlights the need to deepen relations with Mozambique in the economic field, in which the two countries already have a “rich” bilateral relationship.
Emmanuel Macron also mentions cooperation “in the field of solidarity investment, where the French Development Agency is implementing 31 projects for a total amount of €368 million”.
Daniel Chapo, 48, was sworn in as the fifth President of the Republic of Mozambique, after the general elections of October 9, whose results have been contested in the streets.
