Fourteen people, including six journalists, have been killed in a road accident near the Lake Victoria region in Tanzania. The group which also included government officials had been on tour with the Mwanza regional commissioner.
According to the Busega District commissioner, a minibus was trying to overtake another vehicle, when it collided with the van carrying journalists and government officials.
Three journalists and their driver plus seven other people died on the spot while three others that were injured passed away after being taken to a local health centre.
President Samia Suluhu Hassan expressed her condolences to the families of the dead.
“We have lost 6 journalists and 8 civilians. A total of 14 people have died. So let’s please take a moment to stand and pray for them. May they rest in peace inshallah,” says President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
The government has urged citizens to take precautions and follow all road safety laws. -Repoting by Daniel Kijo
