State-owned utility Mozambique Electricity (EDM) suffered a US$200,000 (€177,300) billing loss from the blackout in the southern region of the country last Friday, a company source told Lusa on Monday.
Mozambique’s three southernmost provinces – Maputo, Gaza and Inhambane – were left without electricity for about four hours on Friday after EDM cut power to safeguard the life of a man who climbed a high voltage pylon in Bairro do Fomento, Matola, Maputo province.
The individual, who apparently has mental problems, was eventually removed from the pylon by police and firefighters, and the power supply restored.
