Four officials from the Mozambican Ministry of Health have been suspended on charges of mistreating a woman in Malema, Nampula province, northern Mozambique, Health Minister Nazira Abdula says in today’s ‘O País’.
“Four people have been suspended and are responding to disciplinary processes,” Abdula says.
The suspension comes after a video circulating on social networks showed hospital employees in Nampula laughing out loud at the sight of a woman lying in bed with signs of blood and cuts to the neck.
The video records the woman’s groans of pain while the employees laugh and encourage each other to record the event.
“The patient is our first priority, and it does not make sense for patients to be mistreated,” the Minister of Health says.
