Four found with albino bones arrested in Malawi: One Mozambique citizen

Police in Phalombe district are keeping in custody four people for being found with human bones suspected to be of a person with albinism.
The four- a woman and three men- were arrested on Monday (4th January, 2016) night following a tip-off from a businessman the suspected had approached to sell the bones.
One of the arrested is a Mozambican citizen.
“The four were allegedly offering for sale the said human bones to a businessman at Mitekete trading centre in the district who, upon learning the type of business on offer, got startled and informed Police,” explained Phalombe police publicist, Augustus Nkhwazi.
The law-enforcers Police arrested the four namely; Starford Chimenya, 45, of Takhiwa village, T/A Njema in Mulanje; Kondwani Patrick, 38, of Milande village, T/A Nazombe in Phalombe.
The two other suspects are Rose Kumpama, 39, of Mukakhe village, T/A Kaduya in Phalombe and a Mozambican national Petro Jezemani, 33, of Kholomana village T/A Kholomana in Milanje district.
Nkhwazi said they have since instituted investigations into the matter.
The four will appear before court as soon on charges of Prohibition of Sale of Body or Tissue contrary to Section 16 of the Anatomy Act.
A lucrative black market exists for the body parts of albinos, who are believed by some to possess magical powers that can bring good luck.
Albinos are living in fear of being killed in Malawi, where their body parts are increasingly being sold for use in traditional rituals that promise to deliver wealth and power.
