Four Chinese citizens quarantined in Maputo, in a hotel – report

Four Chinese citizens who have just arrived from China are quarantined in a hotel in Maputo City. This is causing panic among workers of that hotel for fear of coronavirus contamination.

The alert is sounding all over the world. Travel restrictions to China and vice versa are being set up by many countries and Mozambique has already suspended visas.

This week the alarm went off in Maputo City, as there are suspicions that Chinese citizens infected with coronavirus are quarantined in one of the hotels in the country’s capital.

Meanwhile, Health authorities in Maputo City confirm the existence of these Chinese citizens and clarify that they are quarantined in the hotel and not in the centre installed at the Mavalane General Hospital to treat coronavirus because they are not yet sick and the symptoms have not yet been detected.

“We received this information, that we had four Chinese citizens in a hotel and we made our contacts. They are individuals who came from China. These four passengers have no symptoms, they are complying with the 14-day quarantine,” said Sheila Lobo, director of Health of the City of Maputo.

Sheila Lobo further explained why have these citizens been placed under quarantine in a hotel instead of a health unit. “The hospital is for treating those who have symptoms. These individuals are not sick and have no infection. The quarantine is for the prevention and control of the individual and, in case of any symptoms, this individual is sent to the health unit,” she said.

The Chinese citizens entered the country on the 30th of January, three days after the Mozambican authorities suspended the issuance of visas from Mozambique to China and vice versa.

Meanwhile, the National Migration Service (SENAMI) promised to clarify this case in the coming days.

‘O País’ knows that many of the workers of the hotel, located in downtown Maputo, where the Chinese are quarantined, have become increasingly afraid. This is due to the lack of information and also to the absence of any means of protection,despite the fact that they attend to the quarantined guests and serve them on a daily basis.

Chineses em quarentena devido ao coronavírus

Quatro cidadãos chineses que acabam de chegar da China encontram-se em quarentena num hotel da Cidade de Maputo, o facto está causar pânico nos trabalhadores do referido hotel por recear contaminação pela doença.

O alerta está a soar em todo mundo. Há restrições de viagens de diferentes quadrantes do mundo para China e vice-versa e Moçambique já suspendeu vistos.

Esta semana soou o alarme na Cidade de Maputo, pois há suspeitas de que cidadãos chineses infectados por coronavírus estejam em quarentena num dos hotéis da capital do país. Entretanto, as autoridades da Saúde na Cidade de Maputo confirmam a existência dos cidadãos chineses e esclarecem que estão em quarentena no hotel e não no centro instalado no Hospital Geral de Mavalane para tratar do coronavírus porque ainda não estão doentes e ainda não foram detectados os sintomas.

“Nós recebemos esta informação de que tínhamos quatro cidadãos chineses num hotel e fizemos nossos contactos. São indivíduos sim que vieram da China. Estes quatro passageiros não tem nenhum sintoma, estão a cumprir os catorze dias de quarentena”, Sheila Lobo, directora de Saúde da Cidade de Maputo.

Num outro desenvolvimento a directora da Cidade de Maputo esclareceu o porque daqueles cidadãos estarem em quarentena numa instância hoteleira e não numa unidade sanitária.

“O hospital é para fazer tratamento naqueles que apresentam sintomas. Estes indivíduos não estão doentes não tem infecção. A quarenta é para prevenção e controlo do indivíduo e em caso de surgir algum sintoma este indivíduo é encaminhado à unidade sanitária”.

Os cidadãos chineses entraram para o país no dia 30 do mês passado, três dias depois das autoridades moçambicanas terem suspendido a emissão de vistos de Moçambique para China e vice-versa. Entretanto o Serviço Nacional de Migração (SENAMI) remete para esclarecimento deste caso nos próximos dias.

“O País” sabe que muitos dos trabalhadores daquele hotel localizado na baixa da Cidade de Maputo, onde se encontram em quarentena os chineses estão com medo acrescido por um lado pela falta de informação e por outro por falta de meios de protecção, visto que diariamente atendem os hóspedes em quarentena.
