Mozambique: Four sustain minor injuries in coal ship fire
Police in Matola have arrested four men accused of abducting a citizen of Chinese nationality in December last year and demanding three million meticais in ransom.
The alleged kidnappers have been in custody in the Second PRM Station since last Thursday, and were arrested following a break-in at a residence rented to some Cameroonian individuals in which 125 meticais was stolen.
Police source said that the arrest was important in the case of the Chinese citizen’s abduction, and that the kidnapping mastermind, known as “the Brazilian”, was an employee of the victim who lived in a condominium located in EN4 in Matola.
Another of the gang members was identified by police as the owner of the house where the hostage was held. He however denies any involvement and says he was unaware of his tenants activities.
