The Foundation for the Improvement of the Business Environment (FAN) in Mozambique, yesterday allocated 96 million meticais (1.4 million euros) to support the activities of Mozambique’s largest employers’ association next year.
The chairman of the board of directors of the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), Agostinho Vuma, said initiatives would include holding forums and supporting provincial business councils.
Vuma spoke during the signing of a memorandum of understanding between CTA and FAN, a civil society entity supported by Denmark, aimed at developing and putting into effect a national programme of business environment improvements.
“This is our and FAN’s contribution to improving our competitiveness,” Vuma explained, while FAN President Leonardo Simão said: “This is an important step in improving the business environment in a practical way.”
Mozambique ranks 138th out of 190 countries in the World Bank’s “Doing Business” ranking, but Vuma said yesterday that, in addition to the now-agreed support, there were other reforms under way that would improve the country’s international standing.
