The former president of Mozambique, Armando Guebuza, is going before the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) investigating the controversial public debts which are the source of the loss of international partners’ confidence and have resulted in the freezing of budget support for this year .
Guebuza arrived in parliament punctually for the 9:00am closed-door hearing.
Speaking to CPI members who were for the most part former subordinates and party comrades, Guebuza will explain the state-guaranteed debts contracted to finance the operations of Ematum, Proindicus and MAM during the last year of his mandate.
The Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry has already heard several figures considered central to the current state of indebtedness, especially former finance minister Manuel Chang, but Guebuza is considered the key figure and was therefore left to last.
The Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry report is due to be submitted to parliament on Wednesday.
