Former police officer arrested for car theft in Beira, Mozambique

A former police officer (identified as 33- year-old Daniel Simango) was arrested in Beira (Sofala Province) on Sunday 25 September in connection with motor vehicle theft. Simango is accused of stealing a car from a businessman in Chimoio on 19 September.
According to the police, the car has been recovered and efforts are underway to capture Simango’s four accomplices. The PRM informed journalists that this is not the first time that Simango has been involved in criminal activity – he was dismissed from the police force in 2013 for vehicle theft.
