Mozambique and Malawi sign three bilateral agreements, Chakwera lauds 50 years relationship
Notícias (File photo) / Former minister of Justice Abdurremane Lino de Almeida
Abduremane Lino de Almeida was today sentenced to two years in prison for committing crimes of abuse of office and payment of undue remuneration and to return of 1,789 million Meticais [around US$29,546 at current exchange rates], the amount used to finance the trip to Mecca.
Judge João Guilherme, cited by O País, understands that the argument that the former minister received orders from the President of the Republic cannot be accepted, not least because De Almeida is knowledgeable of the law and was not complying with any military order. The defence had said, in a previous session of the trial, that the defendant has the culture of following orders, given his military background.
