The former deputy governor of the Bank of Mozambique, António Pinto de Abreu, has been appointed CEO of Mozambique Airlines (LAM).
The changes at the top of Mozambique’s flag carrier airline did not stop there. LAM’s governing body also appointed Hélder Júlio da Silva Fumo, Carlos Vasco Sitoe and Faizal Abdul Gafar executive directors; and Renato Matusse (former political advisor to the President of the Republic) and Paulo Negrao non-executive directors.
In the last five years the company had three presidents of its board of directors: Teodoro Waty (2011-2013), Carlos Jeque (2013 -2014) and Silvestre Valente Sechene (July 2014 to February 2016). José Viegas was LAM CEO for the 12 years 1999-2011.
The state owns 91 percent of LAM’s shares, with the managers, technicians and workers controlling the remaining nine percent. LAM employs about 700 workers and has offices and representation in Mozambique and abroad. It uses a fleet of Boeing, Bombardier and Brazilian-made Embraer aircraft for its domestic and foreign operations.
