Mozambique: Central bank makes €54.9M loss in 2024, lower profit in 2023

The National Migration Service (SENAMI) has declared as irregular the situation of twelve foreign nationals working in commercial establishments in Maputo and the provinces of Maputo, Tete and Niassa.
A recent SENAMI operation covering sixteen shops across the country found 56 foreign nationals including Rwandans, Zimbabweans, Indians, Brazilians and Portuguese.
According to Rosa Lucio, spokesperson of the Ministry of the Interior institution, the idea of the operation was to identify foreign citizens working illegally in the country and regularise their situation.
Among the irregularities found were expired visas and DIREs [residence permits] and emergency certificates without entry stamps. Among the individuals caught by the operation, some were arrested to testify while others are to regularise their situation by paying a twenty thousand metical fine.
SENAMI recently repatriated 64 foreigners who were in the country illegally, including two Nigerians, sixty Malawians, an Indian and a South African.
According to the spokeswoman, during the past week the country’s borders registered the passage of 105,186 travellers, of whom 54,072 were entering and 51,114 leaving. The province of Maputo registered most travellers (67,000), followed by Tete and Manica provinces with between 15,000 and 7,000.
